Summertime in The Mountains in Tignes

Tignes is a summer alpine resort and a great location for activity holidays or as a stop-off on a motorcycle tour around Europe. Situated on the edge of the world famous Vanoise National Park, Tignes offers a range of traditional mountain activities like hiking and refuges, adventure and adrenaline pursuits such as mountain biking, climbing and mountaineering (with free lift passes for bikers and walkers), family friendly pursuits like archery, pony-treking and trampolining and a sizeable summer skiing area with 50km of runs and a huge snowpark

When the winter crowds leave Tignes Les Brevieres it reverts to a peaceful and sunny village at the foot of the Sache Mountain. Our chalet is located on south facing slopes and enjoys plenty of sun well into the evening for BBQ's and sundowners.

Activity pursuits are very popular in Tignes and a new scheme offers free lift passes for both walkers and mountain bikers as well as free activities in the resort including golf, trampolines, ski-jumping into the lake, tennis, volleyball, archery, pony-treking and much more making it ideal for families with both young children and teenagers. There are miles of mountain bike trails and dedicated downhill courses around the mountain plus a 'bike park' for the brave which features airbags on some of the ramps to help with early landings.

Up on the glacier there is good summer skiing and snowboarding for those who just can't wait till next winter which again features a beautifully maintained 'snow park' for freestyle skiers or snowboarders of all abilities.

For the more traditional summer mountain traveller the Vanoise National Park is one of the largest preserved alpine wilderness areas in western europe with stunning walks which can be combined with staying in alpine refuges over several days. Herds of Ibex and Chamois roam the park along with Marmottes, Eagles and giant Bearded Vultures which were re-introduced to this area some years ago.

Things not to be missed in Tignes in the Summer

• Spot marmottes and giant vultures in their natural surroundings
• Ride a ramp into the Tignes lake on a BMX or on skis!
• Have a BBQ by the lake in Les Brevieres and watch the sun go down over the mountains
• Drive up the Col de L´Iseran and stand at the highest point of the highest road in Europe
• Go skiing in July and August on the Grande Motte Glacier
• Spend the night on the mountain in comfort in the Martin Refuge which is a 1 hour walk from Brevieres
• Get a free mountain bike lift pass and forget about pedalling up
• Sit in the sunshine outside your chalet and just relax...
