Travelling to Tignes Les Brevieres in summer

There are many options for getting to Tignes Les Brevieres and the Col de L'Iseran in the summer.

  • By road

Tignes les Brevieres is easily accessible in the summer by road and is a popular stop for those touring the Alps by car, motorbike or bicycle.  When driving aroud the twisty mountain roads always drive carefully and be aware that there may be a cyclist around the next corner.

From the UK and France, pick your route across France, coming into the Alps from Albertville or Geneva, maybe stopping at Lake Annecy en route to take in the breathtaking views over the lake before coming up into the mountains through Moutiers and Bourg Saint Maurice before reaching us here in Tignes le Brevieres.

Be VERY careful on the road into Moutiers. It goes from a fast two-lane road to a slightly twistier fast two-lane road and the police are there nearly every Friday and Saturday with a speed gun and a book of 90 euro fines. The limit here is 90kph. You should go slower from 5km BEFORE Moutiers on the RN90 from Albertville, just after you go past the turn for 'Grand-Coeur'.

On the way out of Moutiers the big tunnel has a speed camera right in the middle of it and the limit is now a ridiculous 70kph on what is essentially a motorway. Lots of cars realise the camera is there at the last moment and slam their brakes on right in the middle of the tunnel creating obvious hazards. Be careful.

Apart from the cost of the ferry or tunnel, you should allow £50 in tolls each way to/from Calais.  See below a timetable for Cross-channel links below:

From Italy, the high mountain passes of the Col de L'Iseran and the Col du Petit Saint Bernard are both open and well worth the drive/ride.  Both cols are well maintained in the summer and offer some of the best driving views in the Alps.  Being the highest Col in Europe the Col de L'Iseran is very popular with bike touring groups and there is even a cafe at the summit for a break before enjoying the ride down.

  • By plane

Flying to the French Alps has become much more popular in the last few years with the advent of cheap carriers such as Easyjet and Ryan Air. Les Brevieres is about a two and a half-hour drive from either Geneva or Lyon airports with good access via motorways.

The airlines listed below all fly from the airports indicated. The links will take you to their online booking pages.

Prices start from about £50 return with Easyjet or Ryanair. Remember that these cheap carriers always get more expensive the later you leave your holiday booking.  Also, make sure you have worked out your transfer from the airport to Tignes Les Brevieres.  Often late flights will land too late for transfer by train or public buses

    Airport Transfers

Private transfers work very well for groups, especially those with mountain bikes, and those with late or very early transfer times.

Cool Bus is a transfer company based in Bourg Saint Maurice.  In the summer they operate transfers from nearby airports, Geneva, Lyon or Grenbole.  They also have a bike trailer and can happily carry up to 8 people and their bikes to Tignes Les Brevieres.

They also offer an 'uplift service' to the nearby resort of Les Arcs outside of the lift opening dates, allowing our guests to take advantage of terrain in another resort as well as Tignes during their Alpine adventure!

For more info see www.thecoolbus.co.uk or speak to Pip on booking.

It is also to get to get to us from the airports by train, the nearest train station is Bourg Saint Maurice.  See the Rail Europe website for details or the French rail network website.

  • By train

Train is a speedy way to come out to the Alps and offers excitement along the way.  Take the Eurostar to Paris, perhaps include a stop over to enjoy the sites of the French capital. From there a train from the Gare de Lyon will bring you across country to Chambery, the historical capital of Savoie when it was still a principality. Then a train will bring you up into the Alps, enjoy the winding tracks through stunning countryside and beautiful views before arriving in Bourg Saint Maurice.  From here it is just a short taxi journey or bus ride up the hill to us here in Tignes Les Brevieres.  For more details on taxis, with or without mountain bike space, please speak to Pip when booking.

See the Eurostar website for trains to Paris and the Rail Europe Website for train times from Paris to Bourg Saint Maurice, with this English website you can book online or over the phone.

  • Finding Chalet Hattiers

When you get into the village, go past the bus shelter, walk/drive along the main road till you get to a tabac, take the road to your left, opposite the tabac.
From here take the first right (looks like a service road) under the sign 'Hotel Club'.
At the end of this road you will see a little parking area and a chalet with a sign for the 'Lavarie automatique', to the left of this chalet you will the drive up to chalet Hattiers, (with a small wooden Chalet in front of it).

If you have any problems, just ring Pip on 0033 (0) 622 54 63 89 and she will be happy to help.
Motorbikes can be parked outside the Chalet and there are 2 free car parks in the village for cars and vans.
